The North London Empty Property Initiative aims to reduce the number of long-term empty private properties in north London. Through tackling this wasted housing we are increasing the supply of good-quality and affordable accommodation that's available both to let and buy.
The initiative is a partnership between six London boroughs (Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Haringey, Islington and Westminster) that are working together to achieve real improvements in private sector housing.
There are approximately 8,000 properties across these six boroughs that have been empty for at least six months (long-term). Across the same six boroughs there are 68,500 households in housing need and another 5% living in overcrowded conditions. Bringing empty properties back into use is great way to help meet this huge demand for housing.
Our work is delivered using a range of tools from advice and assistance to grant aid and enforcement action.
